Does your refrigerator have trouble staying the right temperature? Does your door not close all the way or stay closed? The problem could be a door gasket that is in need of refrigerator repair. This refrigerator repair is neither costly nor difficult to accomplish yourself.
A refrigerator door gasket is the foam, or rubber part that frames the refrigerator door and seals in the cold air. If this is damaged, you have a problem that can be costly in a number of ways. First, you will not be able to keep food as long. Secondly, your computer will run more often and use more electricity. So, it is a problem that you don’t want to ignore. In fact, since this is an easy refrigerator repair, it doesn’t make sense not to fix it.
If the refrigerator door gasket has a little split, or break you may not have to replace the whole gasket. In fact, this refrigerator repair may be fixed with a little white silicone bathtub caulking. However, if you do need to replace the gasket, you may only have to replace part of it.
Fortunately, if your problem requires the replacement of the whole gasket, it still will not be too expensive. Depending on the refrigerator you have, since you have to find the gasket that fits your fridge, you could look at about $2 a foot, but some fridges require a more expensive gasket.
To replace the gasket, you want to soak the gasket in warm water to make it easier to work with. Than you want to loosen the screws that hold the metal plate and gasket together just enough to be able to remove the gasket from in between the metal and your fridge. This will leave a space for the new gasket to slide in. As you can see, this refrigerator repair isn’t much trouble at all.
