Furniture Repair

Furniture can last longer than a lifetime if it is properly cared for. Not only can it last a lifetime, but it can make it without sustaining damage. However, accidents do happen and stains are sometimes inevitable. Yet, there are some remedies that you can use to perform your won furniture repair.

To treat water marks and rings you can use a number of products right out of your kitchen. This furniture repair can be done by rubbing along the grain with salad oil, mayonnaise, or white toothpaste. Wipe of and polish as normal.

White marks on your wood furniture can be removed by mixing cigarette ashes with lemon juice or salad oil. This mixture is than applied similar to the previous furniture repair going along the grain, wiping dry, and than polishing as usual.

Cigarette burns can be rubbed away using a scratch-concealing polish or a mixture of linseed oil and rottenseed. Rub the polish or paste in the direction of the grain until the cigarette burn is no longer visible.

With nail polish the furniture repair must take place quickly. Start with blotting the polish removing as much as possible. Rub the area with a fine steel wool dipped in wax in the direction of the grain. Wipe the area clear and then polish as usual.

If you need to remove wax or gum from your furniture, first remove as much as you can by scrapping very carefully with your fingernail or a razor blade. Use a fine steel wool to get rid of the leftover and than wax as usual.

Remember that the best defense against furniture stains is avoiding accidents. Furniture that is used often or is around small children will undoubtedly incur some battle scars. If the furniture is of special significance to you, you may want to put a cover of your furniture while grandkids are visiting or put the furniture piece in a less used space to prevent furniture repairs.
