Deck Repair
A wooden deck is constantly bombarded by nature. Rain, Snow, and even sunshine can be harmful to your wood deck. For this reason, deck repair is commonly needed to keep your wood in good condition. However, many people do not routinely maintain their wood decks. The result can be wood rot, discoloration, UV damage.
There are two types of coatings you can use for your deck repair. The one you may be the most familiar with are the clear coatings. These leave the wood protected from moisture and give a laminated look. Your wood basically looks about the same but more glossy in appearance.
Now, a lot of people are starting to go with a different kind of coating for their deck repairs. An opaque coating offers a great many benefits including stronger protection, fire retardant, skid resistant, and it is easier to clean up.
Though this type of coating offers more uniformity, it can also give a dramatically different look to your wood. A deck repair using an epoxy coating will look more plastic in appearance, while a clear coating keeps the classic wood look.
Whatever product you decide to use on your deck repair, a thin coating is best. Deck repairs should be done every spring. Sometimes a good coating can last around two years, but a check should be done every year just to make sure that your deck is not in need of deck repair.
Before applying your deck repair coating, you should examine your deck for any spots that are in need of a sanding. You should also keep an eye out for nails that have popped up. These should be hammered below the surface by using a nail and a hammer. Popped up nails can be damaging to your sander, so tackle that first.
