Auto Repair
Auto repair gets more expensive as the cars we drive get more and more complicated. Even the simplest problems become costly. Than you add the fact that mechanics do not feel compelled to find the cheapest method of auto repair. Though most times you will be required to grin your teeth and bear it, there are some cures for a small radiator leak.
Instead of replacing your radiator, in certain circumstances you may be able to stop a leak without such a costly auto repair. This is done by either sealing the outside of the radiator or pouring a special liquid inside the radiator that contains particles that fall into place in the hole. The trick is finding the right products for the job, or you will end up with an even more costly auto repair.
If you choose the auto repair method that uses a product poured into the radiator make sure that the product is not going to harm your car. Since these products work by plugging the hole, you want to make sure that they don’t plug any other part of your vehicle. Read the instructions and only used the recommended amount that may be in relation to the amount of coolant. One alternative to commercial products is black pepper which is said to work in the same manner.
In addition to products designed to be used on the inside of your auto, repair products are also made to seal the outside of the leak. Products such as radiator putty are meant to be placed on the outside of a leak and are meant to bond to the radiator without having to weld it in place. Again, follow the manufacturer’s instructions to avoid any more auto repairs. There is an alternative with this situation as well. Using a raw egg poured into your radiator is said to bond over the hole creating a seal.
There is a point when the leak becomes so bad that it necessitates a new radiator. If the leak is large enough to necessitate new coolant every day or every other day than it definitely is time to consider standard auto repair.
